Lindbergh Foundation and Orvis Announce Partnership and
Exclusive Aviation-Themed Clothing Line
MINNEAPOLIS, July 29, 2008 — Wearing a flying suit and leather helmet, Charles Lindbergh prepared for the most important flight of his life. At 7:51 a.m. on May 20, 1927, “Lindbergh buckled his safety belt, stuffed each ear with a wad of cotton, strapped on his wool-lined helmet, and pulled his goggles down over his eyes,” wrote A. Scott Berg in his biography entitled “Lindbergh.”
Getting ready for a flight is a little different today, but now pilots can enjoy a little piece of Lindbergh history with a modern twist thanks to a new exclusive line of clothing based on the style and type worn by the famous aviator himself.
This new aviation-themed line of clothing is the result of a newly established partnership between the Lindbergh Foundation and The Orvis Company, the premier catalog outdoor clothier since 1856. Under the program, The Orvis Company will contribute a percentage of sales from this special line to support the operations and programs of the Lindbergh Foundation.

“The Orvis Company is very dedicated to environmental conservation, especially related to fish and wildlife habitat,” said Orvis Communications Manager James Hathaway. “When we discovered that Charles Lindbergh had a deep commitment to the environment as well, it was a natural step for us to develop a clothing line in his honor. Using the profits from the clothing line to support the Lindbergh Foundation, which puts his environmental beliefs into action, makes the program even more fulfilling.”
A limited selection of clothing will be available for sale in the August Orvis catalog. The full aviation-themed line will be available in the Winter catalog, just in time for the holidays.
